A1GP Brazilian Round Still in Doubt

The rumors have flown over the last couple weeks that round 9 of the A1 Grand Prix of Nations scheduled to be held at the Curitiba circuit February 12 would be cancelled. Autosport (Via SpeedTV) is reporting the rumors are fact and the annoucement will come after the first of the year.

In it’s report Autosport has said the speedway has not met the requirements necessary to host A1GP’s machines.

The report claims that the circuit has failed to comply to necessary specs to host A1GP’s machines. In order to be granted the relevant licence the circuit must meet the necessary FIA Grade 2 requirements something that is apparently still up in the air.

Autoweek also said an alternative was sought with Formula 1 venue Interlagos but that track apparently turned A1GP down on the request. That snub by Interlagos officials has all the markings of Mad Max and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone written all over it. It wouldn’t be surprising to learn they have interceded on behalf of Australian Grand Prix Corporation chair Ron Walker.
