Marcos Ambrose CTS Debut to be Delayed

Ambrose may miss early Craftsman Truck Series rounds.

Australian star and two time V8 Super Car Champion Marcos Ambrose will miss events at Daytona, California and Atlanta due to his rookie status and concerns for safety.

“It’s very high speed and NASCAR have a very strict criteria on who they let start those races,” Ambrose said on Thursday.

“It’s a very high risk sport - there have been a few fatalities at Daytona over the last few years - they’re very particular on who they let on those racetracks.

“Regardless of the experience I’ve had around the world it’s very important I don’t jump in too soon and potentially really hurt myself.

“We’re working with them on that to decide what’s best for all of us.”

Although Ambrose said he had tested at Kentucky Motor Speedway and reached speeds of 190mph and also had done some short track testing the Wood Brothers Team, Ambrose and NASCAR officials decided to take the safe route and ease him into action.

If this plan holds he will make his first appearance at 1/2 mile Martinsville Speedway followed by Gateway International Speedway and the high speed oval at Charlotte, North Carolina.

IT also means my choice of Ambrose as the ‘06 Rookie of the Year is in jeopardy.

  1. Nice Blog,

When I read this news I was shocked obviously the Wood Brothers team has a massive amount of confidence in Marcos to hire the guy from the other side of the world, then suddenly its to dangerous what a load of crap.

I too hope that this doesn’t have any effect on his overall standings for the year like missing out on the rookie of the year if he is on the pace.

    Rob

  2. I wouldn’t call it a load of crap but it is disappointing to say the least. The first three events are at such high speed tracks and so differnt than what Ambrose is used to I understand their point.

The part I don’t understand is why the team didn’t give him more on track time at Daytona. When the trucks tested there he didn’t turn a lap.

BTW I added your forum under “resources” in my sidebar.

  3. how can they be worried about speed marcos was doing 180+ down conrod i would think he is used to speed. maybe they are just worried the world might find out that the down under drivers can bloody drive…now theres a thought!

  4. Not likely. Doing 200mph in a pack of 43 cars is far different than anything else on the auto racing scene.

  5. we will just have to agree to disagree. i still think if marcos couldnt handle the speed and type of racing he would never of left the v8’s in aus. he’s to competitive to go to something he wouldn’t be good at.

  6. It’s not a disagreement, it’s a misunderstanding of what has been said.

Nieher I, nor Woods Bros racing haven’t claimed Ambrose hasn’t the required talent. The issue is his experiance on that type of track.

  7. fair call but i hope they decide soon because the rookie of the year is getting futher away for him.
