Losail International Raceway to Hold Grand Prix Masters Event
The Grand Prix Masters organisation enjoyed some success at the inaugural event (The results of which even led grown men to cry.) in South Africa in November and is now looking ahead to expand the idea and has announced a second race which will be held on the Losail International Racetrack near Doha, Qatar on April 29.
A full 2006 calendar is being finalized with between 5 and 6 races expected for this year.
“We are close to agreeing terms with several classic Grand Prix circuits, and should be in a position to announce them shortly,”[GP Masters CEO Scott] Poulter added. Further announcements are expected in the next 2 to 3 weeks.
This will be the first 4-wheel event to be conducted at Losail. Previously the track has hosted the World SuperBike Championship, MotoGP and it’s homegrown Losail Cup for area motorcycle racers.
The inaugural event at Kyalami South Africa produced a podium of Nigel Mansell on the top step followed closely by Emerson Fittipaldi and Ricardo Patrese. It also produced this classic quote from F1 and sports car legend Hans Stuck - “When I raced a car last it was at a time when sex was safe and racing was dangerous. Now, it’s the other way round.

Do you have a current calendar of events for the raceway? I live in Al Khor, Qatar, just down the road from Losail International Raceway and would like to know what kind of races you may have coming up. Thanks!

Look on the tracks website linked to in this post…. oops, check that.
Their track website seems to be offline.
Keep checking the Losail site eventually I assume it will come up.
