Danny Reidy Looks For Australian Sprint Car Title
Danny Reidy is looking to turn his recent form around during the running of the Australian Sprintcar Title on February 2 - 4 at Queensland’s Brisbane International Speedway (BIS) after a turbulent week of competition in Victoria and South Australia.
Although Reidy counts the BIS venue as one of his hoodoo tracks, the 21-year-old heads into his fourth attempt at an Australian Title with an open mind.
“Our team is going to turn up and just give it our best shot and see where that gets us,” stated a blunt Reidy.
The past week for the Reidy Racing team has been quite busy, starting with last Wednesday night (January 25) at Avalon Raceway for the annual Presidents Cup. After qualifying 15th in time trials, Reidy won his heat race and that gained him a place in the A-dash where he finished fourth.
Starting out of position seven in the feature race, Reidy made a solid start and by half race distance was battling for fifth only to make heavy contact with a fellow rival, which ended a promising run.
The following night (Thursday - January 26) Reidy trekked over to South Australia for the Kings Challenge event at Borderline Speedway in Mt Gambier, where he was unable to advance out of the B-main.
Due to poor qualifying time and heat results, Reidy started towards the rear of the field in the B-main and despite a hard charging run he ended up finishing sixth, with only the top two cars transferring into the feature race.
Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium was where Reidy contested the two night (January 27 & 28) Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic (GASC), which ended up as a non event after Saturday night’s feature race was cancelled due to rain.
For Reidy a less than favourable grid draw for the opening night on a hooky surface saw him finish mid pack in both of his heat races with a sixth and a fourth. These results put Reidy off pole position in the C-main where he finished third after running out of brakes in the latter stages of the race. Starting out of position 15 in the B-main, the Alice Springs racer was unable to advance any further up the field than ninth.
Night two of the GASC saw Reidy win his opening heat of the night and back up that result with a fourth in his final heat. This placed Reidy on the outside of the front row for the B-main, but then the rained fell and despite the best efforts of the track staff the night was cancelled.
In hope that the rain would recede, Sungold Stadium staff scheduled the B-main and A-main for the following day at 12pm, but persistent rain forced the cancellation of that too, which saw the GASC declared a non event for the first time in its history.
