JAKARTA, Feb 7 (Bernama) - Malaysia, expecting to welcome more than 3,000 Indonesian Grand Prix fans and their families to the eighth Formula One (F1) Race next month at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), is offering a special promotion package including a special discount on the entrance tickets.

Tourism Minister Datuk Dr Leo Michael Toyad, launching the Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix (KLGP) city festival promotion for Indonesia here last night said to begin with, from March 5 onwards, a special shopping event called the ‘Shopping in KLGP City Festival’ would be held.

“The promotion ending on March 25 will allow all of you ardent fans to race into the malls and chase after the best sales and bargains,” he told the packed crowd at the F.Bar, at Jakarta’s landmark EX Plaza.

He said, during that period business hours would run into midnight in certain parts of Kuala Lumpur so that more than 150,000 F1 fans from all over the world including Indonesia could enjoy late night shopping.

Prior to the F1 Race, there would also be a Pre Formula 1 Grand Prix Festival, showcasing many fringe memorable events such as The KL Third Vintage and Classic Concourse on March 11, the Auto Fest and SIC Formula 1 Road Demo on March 12 and Formula 1 Opening Race; live from Bahrain to KL on March 12.

Toyad said there would also be a Lionel Ritchie Live Concert at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on March 16.

Speaking to the press later, Toyad said there were already 600 takers from among Jakartans at the promotion launch for the F1 last night alone.

“Going by that number, we are really very excited to welcome more Indonesian F1 fans this year,” he said, accompanied by Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Zainal Abidin Zain and SIC Chairman Datuk Mokhzani Mahathir and SIC General Manager Datuk Ahmad Mustafa.

Indonesia’s beauty queen Nadine Chandrawinata, who is also the F1 ambassador for this year was also present.
