Doubts Over India, A1GP Australia Names New Driver

Doubt is growing over Team India’s entry in this weekend’s A1 Grand Prix at Sentul, Indonesia.

India Times reports that owner Atul Gupta is planning to sell the franchise, while Indian news site Zee News claim the team will race at Indonesia, with Karun Chandhok back at the wheel.

The team currently sits at the bottom of the A1GP table and has not registered at championship point to date.

A1 Team Australia introduced a new driver for this weekend’s meeting in Indonesia, with Marcus Marshall taking over from Will Davison for this meeting and two of the three other remaining rounds, in Monterrey, Mexico and Laguna Seca, USA.

Marshall arrives in A1 Grand Prix with the experience gained in British Formula 3 in 2004 and then the Champ Car series with the Walker Racing-run Team Australia in 2005 and is hoping that a strong showing will help him secure a second season in Champ Car this year.

“I’m used to the horsepower, as we have 800bhp in Champ Car,” said the 27-year-old from Australia’s Gold Coast, “but it’s great to be back in the cockpit again, as I haven’t driven a racing car since last October. It’s better still that Sentul is a proper road circuit as I seem to have raced mainly on street circuits of late.” His first experience of the 520bhp A1GP car will be in practice on Friday morning.
