Asian Teams Score Best Ever Qualifying Results

A1 Team Japan, with Hayanari Shimoda at the wheel, used a bit of luck with threatening skies and dry tires to record the second best time of the day in the third session. Shimoda-san with start Sunday’s Sprint race inside the third row in fifth place, Japan’s best start of the season.

Alongside Japan will be Alex Yoong driving for A1 Team Malaysia who will roll off from the sixth position. Alex Yoong said after the session, “Our best qualifying so far, I think everyone in the team is a little bit pleased, because we were very quick today. We sorted out our balance issues from this morning and set our best times on old tyres. We saved a new set for the last run, but unfortunately it rained. These things happen, you never can tell, we took a gamble, but it didn’t work out. Still, sixth place is a good starting position.
