Mutual Help Offered Between A1GP Teams
Since the official A1 Paul Ricard test session in August 2005, A1 Team Malaysia has assisted A1 Team Indonesia with spare parts purchase and supply and other logistics issues as A1 Team Indonesia did not have its full complement of spares with the team having been put together very quickly in the last weeks leading up to the start of the inaugural A1 Grand Prix of Nations series at Brands Hatch in the UK on 25 September 2005.
On Sunday at Sentul International Circuit, Indonesia, A1 Team Malaysia was in need of a spare nose at the end of the Sprint Race following damage to the front of the car during one of the two occasions when Alex Yoong was hit by another car.
A1 Team Indonesia immediately came to the rescue by offering their spare nose in order for A1 Team Malaysia to compete, as the damaged nose was not repairable in the time available between races.
Jack Cunningham, Team Principal said on Sunday, “Keen-eyed fans will have noticed that the A1 Team Malaysia car ran with a red and white nose. We thank Team Indonesia for their generosity in coming forward and offering us the use of the spare nose. We have done a lot for the Indonesian team over the past months and this was their opportunity to pay us back and help us compete, in a race where achieved such a fine result. Without their help today, we wouldn’t have made it. Their willingness to reciprocate when we needed help was just what we needed. Perhaps that’s the true result of a racing series run between competing nations. Anyway, with Lola now having the opportunity to produce additional parts we will have our full complement in Mexico, our next race, where we will again be showing the yellow, black and white colours of Team Malaysia.
