Armaan Ebrahim Scores Formula Renault UK Ride
India will be represented for the first time in the Formula Renault UK Championship with Michelin after Position 1 Racing confirmed Team A1 India driver Armaan Ebrahim as it’s second driver for 2006. Ebrahim joins Richard Keen at the team, which was formerly known as Team Firstair, with a third driver due to be announced soon.
As well as being the first Indian driver in the Championship, at just 16, Ebrahim will also be one of the youngest-ever drivers to take to the grid. But despite his tender years, he has already built a strong reputation due to some stunning results in Formula BMW Asia and the A1 Grand Prix series.
Ebrahim, from Chennai (formerly known as Madras), finished third in the junior category of the 2005 Formula BMW Asia Championship, which placed him fifth overall. He made history as the youngest ever race winner in the series when he won the Formula One support race in Sepang. His results earned him a place in the Team A1 India squad, where he has completed five of the seven races.
Speaking from India, Ebrahim said:
“I’m very pleased to be joining Formula Renault UK because it will help me mature as a racing driver. I’d like to make up for some of the learning I missed by going so quickly into A1 Grand Prix. Last season it was common to see 20 cars within a second of each other so I know how competitive it will be.“I don’t think it will take me long to settle in because although I don’t know the circuits, I will have plenty of pre-season testing. Also, I have had to learn new circuits this season in A1 Grand Prix so I am used to picking up the pace very quickly.
