Win # 3 for Farrell on the West Coast

Reigning Western Australian State Champion Ryan Farrell last Saturday night (February 25) clinched his third feature race victory of season 2005/06 at Kwinana’s Quit Motorplex during round 13 of the AHG Sprintcar series.

Although by Farrell’s own standards he would have hoped for more than three feature race wins so far this season, he is certainly finishing this current season strongly aboard the # 95 Bunbury Mitsubishi supported Maxim.

“It’s wonderful to get another feature race victory in the bag, especially since we have finished behind (Dean) Jacobs on a number of occasions this season,” said Farrell.

“The car performed strongly all night and full credit must go to my hard working team for all their efforts. I was able to run the highline throughout the feature race and it certainly paid off as my car worked beautifully up there.”

Farrell started the 25-lap feature race out of position nine and quickly worked his way into the top three behind leader Mike Figliomeni. The first and only caution period occurred on lap 20 and on the restart Figliomeni pulled off the track with mechanical woes, which handed Farrell command. From there Farrell was able to clear out from the rest of the field and record a comfortable win.

“It would have been good to have had Figliomeni finish the race as I was all prepared for a good battle, which never eventuated,” Farrell mentioned.

“As they say: to finish first, first you must finish, and that’s what we did and I came home the winner, which is always good.”

During his qualifying heat races, Farrell finished with a second and a win.

In regards to his solid form of late, Farrell is hoping for a continuation leading into the Krikke Boys Shootout and Michael Nanovich Tribute / Kings of Wings over the next two weekends at Bunbury City Speedway (March 4 & 5) and the Quit Motorplex (March 10 & 11) respectively.

“In the past I haven’t had the best of luck in these events, and I’m hoping my current form will see things turn around,” stated Farrell.

“They (the Krikke Boys Shootout / Michael Nanovich tribute events) mean so much to me and to get my name on the winner’s trophy would be something very special to me as they are both dedicated to great friends of mine.”
