Firman Inks Deal to Race for Super Aguri

A1 Team Ireland racer Ralph Firman has re-signed to race for the Super Aguri Honda Racing Team in this year’s Japanese Super GT Championship, sharing again with Daisuke Ito.

“I’m delighted to have signed for Team Honda Racing and I’m confident that we will be highly competitive again,” said Ralph. “Last year was the first running of the Super GT series and we developed the Honda NSX-GT considerably through the season. We were unfortunate not to win the title, so this year our sights are set firmly on the teams’ and drivers’ championships.

“I’d like to thank Honda for giving me the opportunity to compete as part of its attack. One thing is for sure, and this is that I’ll certainly be busy in the coming weeks as I combine completing the two remaining rounds of the A1 Grand Prix series for A1 Team Ireland with the start of the Super GT series.”

With Super Aguri Racing all set for its maiden season of Formula 1, Ralph’s continued connection to Aguri Suzuki’s racing empire means that it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Aguri may call upon the F1 experience that Ralph gained when racing for Jordan in 2002 to assist the team with the development of their new car, the SA6, which is due to start testing in the spring.
