FBMW Asia: Season Preview
The heroes of this weekend’s Formula One Grand Prix are all household names, having reached the very pinnacle of international motorsport. However, the Formula BMW Asia drivers, some as young as 16, who are racing alongside them represent Asia’s brightest single seater talent.
Ralf Schumacher (Toyota Racing), Nico Rosberg (WilliamsF1 Team), Christian Klien (Red Bull Racing) and Adrian Sutil (MF1 Racing) are all Formula BMW graduates, and in Asia the series has firmly established itself as the ultimate launch pad for an international racing career. Launched in 2003, Formula BMW Asia will begin its fourth season this weekend with a field brimming with fledgling talent and enormous potential.
The drivers hail from countries right across the Asia Pacific region, and this year the series will visit seven different race tracks during its 19-round season, twice supporting rounds of the FIA Formula One World Championship – this weekend, and in Shanghai later in the year.
BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen: “Being part of the Formula One support programme means a lot to our Formula BMW drivers: They can show their mettle in front of huge crowds and the most influential people in international motor sports.
