V8 SuperCars Season Preview

Who will it be in 2006? Everybody is talking up Craig Lowndes, there’s many accolades on untested superstar James Courtney and the Champion Russell Ingall will loom large. And is their a smoky somewhere in the pack who will surprise all?

The 10th anniversary season of the V8 Supercar Championship Series starts on Friday. The Clipsal 500 in Adelaide is the fitting place to begin the 2006 campaign in front of more than 250,000 people.

Only three teams remain the same in either livery or drivers in 2006 after a long off-season. The majority of the field has at least one new driver with the only constants the Holden Racing Team, Holden Special Vehicles Team, Team BOC, Jack Daniel’s Racing and Team Kiwi Racing.

Champion Ingall might be the one with the most to lose but in his mind he is the one with the most to gain – a back-to-back title to prove his first was not a one-off. But the dogs are barking already.

The loudest on last year’s form is Craig Lowndes with the Red team Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly close behind. Holden Special Vehicle’s Garth Tander and Rick Kelly finished 2005 like rockets while Steven Richards has a big new backer behind his team.
