The A1GP Series has invited FRD Motorsports to setup a Formula Renault race as a support event for the last round of the A1-GP. This history-making event will take place at the Shanghai International Circuit on April 1 and 2.

The A1GP is known as the World Cup of Motorsports. Each team is from a different country, with a total of 25 different teams. Each of these teams is allowed to have 2 official drivers from their respective county to drive for them. The concept for this racing series is to make it like Football, where countries compete with each other and the race teams have their whole nation behind them. Since the A1GP operates during the winter season, it in fact started winter of 2005, and will end in April 2, 2006 in Shanghai. The French team has already clinched the championship, but points are still up for grab for Jiang Tengyi and Team China. So far Shanghai’s own Tengyi has scored 6 points for China. With his home track advantage at SIC, he should be at the top of the time charts!

FRD Motorsports, The Asian Motorsports Pioneer and also the promoter of the Asian Formula Renault Challenge will hold a Formula Renault race as a support event for the A1GP. Since this is a special one off race out of the AFR Challenge, there will be quite a few famous guest drivers making a special appearance for this race. One of them will be Touring Car Legend Henry Lee Jr, who has won a number of championships in the past including Macau. Of course everyone’s eyes will be focused on Chinese Red Bull Junior Driver Jim Kato, who just won his first Renault race last month in Shanghai. Chances are, he can do it again, and maybe even twice this weekend!

This race is one race you really do not want to miss.With it being the last A1GP event of the season, and the first time coming to China, it is just as big as when Formula 1 first came to China in 2004.Thanks to FRD Motorsports, you will get to see the A1GP, and then a Formula Renault race at the same event. Most of the A1GP drivers came right from Formula Renault like Jiang Tengyi.Chances are, the drivers you see in Formula Renault today, will be racing in the A1GP tomorrow!
