Alex Yoong Prefers the “Small Pond” of A1GP
Alex Yoong says he prefers the novel A1 World Cup style open wheeler series to motor racing’s pinnacle, Formula One.
The Malaysian, who was F1’s perennial backmarker during stints for Minardi in 2001 and 2002, won the recent Chinese A1 sprint race from pole position.
”I would definitely stay in A1, it would have to be a good deal for me to move to F1 - a very good deal,” the 29-year-old told China Daily.
”F1 is about manufacturer against manufacturer, about engine deals and about money.”
Left unsaid by the Malaysian star: F1 is also about employing the world’s top chauffeurs and it’s better to be a “big fish” in a small pond vice a perennial backmarker with zero chance at being offered a “very good deal” in a larger and more prestigious pond.
