Mark Vicuna to debut in the Lotus 500
(Press Release) - Sydney’s Mark Vicuna will make his debut in the annual Lotus 500 endurance race at Goulburn’s Wakefield Park this Saturday in the #21 Lotus Elise.
Vicuna will be sharing driving duties with Chance of a Lifetime winner Evan Daley in Daley’s regular Lotus Trophy Elise.
The 500km endurance race is an unusual format for Australia because half of the race will be run under lights at night. It will be a learning curve for both drivers, as it is their first attempt at an enduro, however they have been studiously preparing for the physical demands of night driving and endurance racing.
I’m looking to gain experience this weekend. I have previously driven Lotuses in the Chance of a Lifetime competition and am really looking forward to racing them around Wakefield Park this weekend.
The Lotuses are made for the Wakefield Park circuit because they are quick and nimble and the brakes are fantastic. I have driven thousands of laps around Wakefield, so I feeling very comfortable heading into the race this weekend.
We will look at our race strategy on Friday after we have had a chance to work out our fuel consumption in practice, but we are expecting consistency through the race, said Vicuna.
Vicuna started racing late in life, at age 26, and has previously raced in NSW club events in his supercharged Lexus and had much success in class at the NSW Dutton Rally last year.
The race will run over 228 laps, beginning at 2.50pm on Saturday. Three classes will contest the race and there will be plenty of opportunity for the drivers to grab some extra prize money during the three Dash for Cash periods in the race.
