Malaysian F3 Star Looks to Capture Title

Aaron Lim, one of Malaysia’s brightest racing prospects, has set his sights on landing the prestigious Formula BMW Asia Series title this year. The 20-year-old is determined to break out of the shadows of the other drivers in his second season in the highly exciting series.

“My aim this year is to win the Formula BMW championship and then try to secure some much needed sponsorship to participate in the Formula BMW World Finals,” said Aaron, who will be driving for Team E-Rain this season.

To boost his championship aspirations, Aaron will have to improve on his performance in the first two rounds held last month. Despite his problems with the set up, Aaron managed to finish a creditable 10th and 8th respectively in the first two rounds which were held as support races during the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix.

Almost two months after the season opener, Aaron will have the opportunity to make amends in front of the home fans during the opening round of the Asian Festival of Speed (AFOS) at Sepang International Circuit from May 14-15.

“I would like to pursue my racing career in Europe next year” he said, but the youngster will have to be at his best this year to be able to do so as there are many other talented drivers aiming for the championship win.

Last year, in his first season of car racing, he finished an impressive eighth overall, despite only entering the championship in the third round. “I hope to eventually graduate to Formula 1 within five years and I want to be recognised as a successful professional racing driver,” Aaron said.

Formula BMW Asia is an annual race series that offers the best four racing hopefuls from the region a race scholarship.

Organised by Motorsport Asia Limited and sanctioned by the FIA, the AFOS event offers fans three other major championships this year – Formula V6 Asia by Renault, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and the ever exciting Asian Touring Car Championship.

The eagerly anticipated Formula V6 Asia by Renault series will make its debut during the coming Asian Festival of Speed Event.

The Formula V6 Asia (FV6A) by Renault is the most technologically advanced car in its category and is also the most eagerly awaited single-seater series to arrive in the region. The inception of the FV6A by Renault marks a big step forward for the AFOS.With 390bhp and speeds of 270km/h, the FV6A by Renault is the fastest single-seater race series in Asia.

In addition to the superb racing that is on the cards, fans will also be treated to a drift demonstration during the lunch break on Sunday, May 14 at the paddock car park area. There will also be a total of 80 cars being displayed at the Mall Area on Sunday.

Entrance for the event is free on Friday, 12th May and Saturday, May 13 with Grand Stand tickets for Sunday, May 14 priced at only RM12 which will be available at the entrance of the circuit.
