Tyson Sy Scores Hat Trick at BRC Philippines
Round Two:
Tyson Sy was never headed in round two of the Asian Formula Three Series held Sunday morning at the Batangas Race Circuit. JP Tuason was the Promotions Class winner.
Sy led the field away with John O’Hara storming through to second from 5th on the grid and was giving Sy a run for his money before he went off, permanently, at turn 5. This handed second place to Dillon Battistini who led a four car train comprised of James Winslow, who had gone off on the first turn and worked his way back to third, Moreno Soeprapto and Dado Pena. They finished in that order, despite lots of ducking and diving. Battistini drove a faultless “defensive” race. Moreno was demoted to 7th place after receiving a time penalty for jumping the start
Michele Bumgarner stalled at the start allowing JP Tuason to take the Promotions Class lead from Gaby dela Merced. The latter all but caught Tuason on the line, finishing second in class with Bumgarner third despite crashing on the final lap.
Round Three:
Tyson Sy romped away to his third win of the weekend, with John O’Hara getting best of a fraught race for second. Satrio Hermanto won the Promotions Class.
Sy once again was able to drive away from the squabbling pack and took another accomplished win. John O’Hara made a storming start from the back of the grid and was up to fifth by the end of the first lap. He was soon in fourth place and was further helped when Battistini and Jackson tangled at the first turn. Battistini rejoined in 8th place whilst Jackson was not delayed too much. Pena drove a controlled race and finished third behind O’Hara with Jackson and Winslow in tow.
Satrio Hermanto was not troubled in his drive to first place in the Promotions Class with JP Tuason second. Gaby dela Merced finished third, just after she clashed with fellow Filipina, Michele Bumgarner, at the final turn on the last lap. Bumgarner ended her race in the gravel. Bumgarner had stalled at the start for a third time and had driven well to catch the field.
