A1 Team Malaysia, in conjunction with Berjaya Group, today donated 1200 team t-shirts to the SKM Dato’ Onn in Kuala Lumpur as part of the team’s social responsibility programme.

The school approached A1 Team Malaysia recently in their continued efforts to raise funds for the school library.

“When we thought about what the school had asked for, we decided that we could better help them by actually going to the school itself with the A1 Team Malaysia show car,” says Alex Yoong. “We gave each of the students a t-shirt today and then spent time with them showing them the car and generally talking about the importance of doing well at school.”

He added, “Some of these children come from quite disadvantaged backgrounds and we hope that our presence at the school with the car I raced at in the A1 series will have inspired some of them further in their studies.”

Owen Leed, Commercial Director of A1 Team Malaysia, stated “SMK Dato’ Onn needs funding to stock its library. If any organisation or individual makes a donation exceeding RM3,000 to the school, then A1 Team Malaysia will give the use of its show car to that company or individual for a day, anywhere in Malaysia. For donations to SKM Dato’ Onn please contact Mrs Sevakame on 03 9221 2008. For donations exceeding RM 3000 I invite contact with me so I can work out how to schedule the car.”

Jack Cunningham, Chief Executive of A1 Team Malaysia,

“We hope that this offer will encourage donations to the school. A1 Team Malaysia competes on behalf of all Malaysians in the A1 Grand Prix series. What Alex, Owen and the team members have done today is simply a matter of national pride and participation -we sincerely hope that SKM Dato’ Onn is successful in its fundraising efforts and that we have played a small part in assisting with that.”

The car will be on show at the KL Motor Show next week, as a main feature on the Proton exhibition.
