A1GP Team China Selects Two New Drivers

Congfu Cheng has been confirmed as the first of two new drivers signed up to join Tengyi Jiang and Qinghua Ma, racing for A1 Team China in the 2006/07 A1 season.

Shortly after the A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Shanghai International Circuit, A1 Team China announced plans to add two new drivers to their line up next season, each of whom will take part in a full training schedule to run throughout the summer months. Twenty-two year-old Cheng from Beijing, is currently competing in the British Formula Renault Championship where he lies sixth in the drivers’ table on 63 points.

Tengyi Jiang will compete in a number of F3000 races in Europe and Qinghua Ma will race in the 2L Northern European Championship over A1’s off-season. A1 Team China is planning to build up a base in China to train young drivers. Currently Renault 2L and F3000 cars might be on the purchase list and Zhuhai International Circuit is more likely to be the track chosen by the team.

Two more Chinese mechanics will be selected from Chinese Universities as part of A1 Team China Technical Personnel Training Programme, who will follow the team in 2006/07 season that kicks off at Circuit Park Zandvoort in the Netherlands on 1 October.
