Adam Macrow Scores SuperCar Win at Wakefield Park
Adam Macrow has won his second consecutive round win at Wakefield Park, Goulburn today ahead of fellow Ford driver and Dick Johnson Racing stand-in Luke Youlden and Holden driver Nathan Pretty.
Macrow backed up his round one victory at the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series support race at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide last March by winning the first and third races of the day and ending the full reverse grid race two in a competitive ninth position.
Macrow and the Howard Racing team have tasted success at the tight Wakefield Park circuit previously, when they took out their first ever round victory at the event last year.
This weekend’s victory now extends Macrow’s lead to 72 points ahead of podium finisher Pretty and seasoned performer Wayne Wakefield.
“There is no doubt that we hope to carry this form on to the next round of the Championship at Queensland Raceway,” Macrow said.
“I am a lot more confident now than I was at the start of last year. We have a good strong lead after this weekend but I’m trying not to keep that in my mind. When you relax that’s when you tend to have a downfall, so we will just push on and treat the next round like any other.”
Luke Youlden showed he still has what it takes to be a standout performer in the series as he competed in a one-off appearance for Queensland based V8 Supercar team DJR.
Youlden replaced Sunrise presenter and Dancing with the Stars winner Grant Denyer when he withdrew from the event due to his television commitments.
“I really enjoyed this weekend and getting back into the swing of things at the wheel of a V8 Supercar,” Youlden said.
“I’m not quite sure what Grant (Denyer) is up to for the remainder of the year but the DJR team have said that he should be able to juggle the next few rounds with his television commitments in Melbourne.
“I am grateful to be given the opportunity to drive this weekend and finish on the podium and hopefully the team will think of me again if the opportunity arises.”
Pretty flew the lone Holden flag on the podium and impressed in his first ever reverse grid race in the category making up 19 positions to finish in seventh spot.
“The whole aim of coming into this Championship was to come in with a cool head and that’s exactly what we did today,” Melbourne-based Pretty said.
“It is nice for a Holden to be back in the Championship hunt and I’m sure we will slowly keep chipping away at claiming back the title.”
The last time a Holden claimed the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series was in 2002 with current Jack Daniel’s Racing driver Paul Dumbrell.
The third round of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series now heads to Queensland Raceway, Ipswich where it will be the major support category to the V8 Supercar Championship Series on July 21 – 23.
