Toll HSV happy after hot day in Darwin
The Toll HSV Dealer Team kicked off its Hidden Valley campaign by putting both of its Commodores into the top four in Friday practice for the SkyCity Triple Crown.
Rick Kelly, who had been 28th fastest in practice at the same event last year, breezed into second place on the timesheets with a best lap of 1min 09.4secs, and only a heroic late lap by Holden rival Mark Skaife kept him from top spot in the long, hot session.
Championship leader Garth Tander, meanwhile, was fourth fastest with a best lap of 1min 09.6secs, and had been lying third until, in the final minutes of the session, Mark Winterbottom split him and Kelly to take third spot by just three-hundredths of a second. Both Kelly and Tander were pleased with their early form, but said they would be chasing more speed for Saturday’s qualifying.
