Asian F3 Round 6 & 7 Results
Ali Jackson won the re-run Asian F3 round six at the Zhuhai International Circuit from James Winslow who drove a great race from the back of the grid. Dillon Battistini was third whilst LouMeng Cheong won the Promotions Class.
Jackson took the lead in another wet race with Battistini second and Moreno Soeprapto third. A huge squabble behind the top three took a few laps to sort out with Winslow braking clear and then relentlessly closing on the leaders.
Moreno spun out at turn ten allowing Don Tacos to move into fourth with Tyson Sy, Bagoes and Pepon Marave for company. Tacos and Sy broke clear with the latter finding a way past only to fall off the track.
Meanwhile up front Battistini closed on Jackson and momentarily took the lead before Jackson reasserted himself and took an accomplished victory. Winslow then took second on the last lap from his team mate with Don Tacos finally finishing an AF3 race in fourth.
Dado Pena suffered electrical problems on the grid and started from the pit lane before depositing the car in the gravel.
LouMeng started from the pit lane and took only two laps to take the Promotions Class lead from Satrio Hermanto with Gaby Dela Merced finishing third.
Round Seven Results:
Ali Jackson had a real fight with James Winslow to take victory in round seven held in damp conditions in the Frestech Pan Delta Super Racing Festival at the Zhuhai International Circuit. Satrio Hermanto took Promotions Class honours.
Pole sitter Dado Pena was punted into spin at the first turn of the race by a fast starting Roland Hermoso. Bagoes Hermanto was also involved bringing out the safety car whilst the wreckage was cleared. “My mistake” admitted a contrite Hermoso.
At the re-start Winslow took the lead from Jackson and these two pulled away from a battling Moreno and Battistini. Jackson hounded Winslow for eight laps before outbraking the Englishman into turn four. Winslow fought back going all the way around the outside of Jackson in the flat out turn six before Jackson took the place for good at turn seven.
The interest now was with the battle for third between Dillon and Moreno, the former finally finding a way past with a couple of laps to go. Moreno however had other ideas and fought back retaking the place on the last lap. Battistini almost returned the favour on the final turn, finishing a mere .043 seconds behind Moreno. Tyson Sy finished fifth whilst Pepon Marave spun out into the final turn gravel, joined a few laps later by Gaby Dela Merced who missed Marave’s beached car by millimeters.
Satrio won the Promotions Class after a race long battle with LouMeng, the pair finishing just over a second apart.
Sunday will see rounds eight and nine of the series and on the present form Ali Jackson is going to be a hard man to beat. The on-form Winslow looks the man most likely to whilst Dado Pena should be one to watch having to start at the back of the field.
