R.I.P. Peter Brock, Australian Legend

The Australian auto sports community has lost one of its legends. (H/T Leftlane News) Brock along with Sir Jack Brabham are probably the best known Australian racing drivers.

Peter Brock was killed in an accident while taking part in the Targa West rally in Western Australia. Brock, 61, was driving with colleague Mick Hone in a Ferrari Daytona Coupe when the incident occurred.

Brock dominated Australian motor racing for three decades, with his greatest wins coming at Bathurst where he scored 10 wins, (9 Bathurst 1000 events and 1 Bathurst 24 hour event) more than any other driver. His record at Bathurst earned him the nicknames “Peter Perfect” and “King of the Mountain”.

The UK Motor Sport magazine rated Peter Brock in the top 20 most exciting drivers of all time, a list which includes the likes of Senna, Schumacher, Fangio and Nuvolari.

The staff of Asian MotorSports sends its condolences to all of Peters friends, family and racing colleagues.

R.I.P. Peter Geoffrey Brock, February 26, 1945 - September 8, 2006.
