Three New Names in FV6A in Zhuhai
Three new drivers have confirmed their participation for this weekend’s Formula V6 Asia by Renault at the Zhuhai International Circuit, China.
One of the biggest motorsporting names in China, Marchy Lee, will be teaming up with Team Meritus, his former team with whom he won the Formula BMW Asia Title in 2004. Although the 30 year old has been in hiatus from racing for two years, the talented driver was immediately on the pace.
The last driver to arrive at the circuit this weekend was Tim Barber, whose plane landed early Friday morning. Team principal, John Siau, rushed him in from San Francisco to replace Korean driver Ken Lee at the helm of car #3 for CT Motorsport. Barber made an appearance during the ‘FV6A Shakedown’ held at Sepang International Circuit early in the season but will be racing the car for the first time.
Champ Motorsport has found and has been training a fresh new Chinese talent during the past year in China Formula Renault 2000. At 16 years old, Adderly Fong will be the youngest ever driver to participate in Formula V6 Asia. Champ Motorsport owner, Michael Ho, has placed great confidence in Fong’s ability, citing “he will be the next Chinese racing superstar. He came to us with no previous experience and he has done so well”. Fong will participate in Rounds 11 & 12, driving Ho’s car #27 for the team.
