Round 15, which was postponed from the previous Sentul event, was run at BRC this morning and turned out to be one of the most exciting races seen to date in the series.

Pena took a last lap victory from Tyson Sy and James Winslow. Michele Bumgarner won the Promotions Class.

Moreno Soeprapto, Dillon Battistini and Dado Pena started from the back of the grid after their Sentul event problems whilst at the front Ali Jackson made a fantastic start to take the lead from pole sitter, James Winslow, and Tyson Sy. The officials judged Jackson’s start to be too good and he was given a one minute jump start penalty. Sy quickly found a way past Winslow whilst a fast starting Battistini was in a close fourth place by the end of the second lap. Jackson, Sy and Winslow circulated in close company at the front whilst Battistini fell back with a gear change problem.

Just after half distance the top three were still close together with Dado Pena now up to fourth and closing on the leaders. Jackson seemed to be taking very defensive lines with three laps to go resulting in Sy and Jackson falling over each other and allowing Pena to latch onto Winslow’s tail. The top four were now racing side by side and Winslow lost out when Pena slipped past in the confusion at turn two on the penultimate lap.

Into the fast Brian’s corner on the last lap Jackson slowed dramatically which slowed Tyson Sy and allowed Pena to pass both on the exit. Pena went on to take the win from Jackson, Sy and Winslow. Once he was given his one minute jump start penalty Jackson fell back to eighth in the results. Michele Bumgarner finished first in the Promotions Class after fighting her way past initial leader, Satrio Hermanto, on the sixth lap.

Winslow’s lead in the Championship is now 39 points with 63 points still to be won. Qualifying for round 16 takes place this afternoon followed by the race itself. Sy and Jackson need to finish in front of Winslow to give themselves any chance of taking a last gasp championship win.
