Sydney’s Louis “Action Man” Chan scooped the NSW Improved Production Racing (IPRA) Newcomer/Rookie of the Year at last Saturday’s IPRA Presentation Awards Night.

Chan also took home the 2nd place (0-1600cc) Class Championship Trohpy. Chan’s #7 Honda EK4 Civic claimed 5 class round wins from 6, to grab 2nd in Under 2 Litre Class (0-1600cc Late Model). An unfortunate DNS in Race 2, Round 5 at Wakefield prevented him from taking 1st in Class – the Class Championship is based on finishing consistency as opposed to wins. Nonetheless, the total points Chan accrued from the year, took him to 5th outright in the championship.

Proconcept also won the coveted “Best Presented” Trophy and the peer nominated, “Best Encouragement” Award.

“Despite the DNS earlier in the year, we knew we had the car that set the pace in the class with no contest. Next year, we’ll move forward in our processes to ensure we have 100% reliability. Actually those processes are already in place,” said Chan.

“To win the Best Presented Trophy was a total surprise to myself and the team. The team and car presentation standard in IPRA is always maintained at an extraordinary level, considering it (IPRA) is a state-level motorsport category. So to win this was a fantastic finish for the evening.”

Chan is looking forward to next year as he steps up to challenge the U2L Category outright in the (1601-2000cc) class.

“I can’t wait for the 2 litre engine we have been developing for the past 6 months. We will use this to contest the championship outright next year. However, we have made sure not to leave a void in the (0-1600cc) class. We will make a mark next year in IPRA with two more entries to replicate – and better - the results for 2007.”

“Yes, a great set of results for Proconcept this year, and a great lead up for 2007. 2007 will signify the debut of Proconcept Racing and our 3 Honda Civic entries in IPRA,” concludes Joshua Cho, Director of Proconcept.
