Hulkenberg to Leave A1GP
According to Autosport, the 20-year-old will contest South Africa’s round of the ‘World Cup of Motorsport’ on February 25th, before stepping aside to concentrate on this year’s F3 Euro Series.
The decision will see the promotion of Formula BMW world champion Christian Vietoris to the cockpit, with the 17-year-old pencilled in for the Mexico City round one month later.
Vietoris is also expected to contest the final two races of the season, in Shanghai on 15th April and the British round at Brands Hatch a fortnight later.
The 17-year-old told the magazine: “It will be a big challenge for me. The car is a lot of fun but now I need to train more to build my arms and neck up for the race.”
Hulkenberg has undoubtedly been the star of A1 GP thus far this season, with six victories allowing Germany to open up a 25-point series lead over New Zealand.
