Jones on Sepang Podium Again

Christian Jones earned himself another podium finish in the third round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia at Sepang, although a retirement in the fourth has left the Australian further back in the points standings.

Competing on the shorter configuration of the Malaysian circuit, the North Track provided plenty of entertainment with Jones in particular impressing the crowds by getting to within a tenth of Sugden in qualifying and then pushing the experienced sportscar driver all the way to the chequered flag.

“There was nothing between us until the halfway mark on lap ten I could see his rear tyres were starting to give him trouble and knew I could challenge him for a pass towards the end of the race,” he said.

“In the drivers briefing we were told to put our indicator on if we were entering the pits because the pit entry is on the exit of a fast corner but I’m not blaming Tim he obviously thought I knew he was going into the pit and I wasn’t sure if he was or not, it was just one of those things that happens, that’s racing! To know that if I had not hit him I would have won the race and be leading the points is very disappointing.”
