Lowndes Bounces Back to Maintain Title Placing
After a disappointing start to the weekend at Winton, Craig Lowndes bounced back in the final two races in Victoria to ensure he retains seventh place in the V8 Supercar Championship standings.
Having finished the opening race down in 18th place, Lowndes came through the pack to take sixth in the second race of the weekend – despite being tipped into a spin – and then went one better in the final race to finish fifth.
It means the #888 Falcon ends the weekend fifth in the round results, although Lowndes preferred to look ahead to the next round at Eastern Creek – where he will hope to build on the team’s first round win of the year, courtesy of team-mate Jamie Whincup.
“Race 2 was disappointing in that our pit strategy was effective in leap-frogging a number of positions but being turned around and losing those was disheartening,” he said. “All credit to both car engineers on producing a dry track set-up though after we had poor form during practice and qualifying.
“I am always happy to see the team do well but I must say I am really looking forward to Eastern Creek where I have had some good results.”
