Lowndes Sets Eastern Creek Pace

Craig Lowndes set the early pace in the fifth round of the V8 Supercar Championship at Eastern Creek, the former champion topping the practice session.

Returning to the circuit he won at in 2005 when the championship last competed at the Sydney circuit, Lowndes overcame continually changing track conditions to record to the fastest lap of the day in his TeamVodafone Ford Falcon.

Almost a second quicker than Garth Tander in second, it was a strong day for Ford on a whole with James Courtney proving third quickest, giving Lowndes confidence ahead of qualifying for the first of three races.

“I was delighted with the car setup from the beginning,” said Lowndes. “It was very good in both wet and dry conditions.

“The conditions were constantly changing today which required a little bit of patience, but we did manage to get the best out of the car in the varying conditions. I am confident with the car in both wet and dry. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.”
