Want Some Curry Rice and Auto Racing?
Then Sports Management Group International (SMGI), in association with tire manufacturing giants Goodyear and Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India has just the thing your looking for.
A racing series based on the NASCAR model with the inaugural race slated to be held in Greater Noida (India) from December 23 to 25.
Dubbed the Goodyear Top 1 Racing Challenge (T1) drivers will compete in two separate divisions. A Professional category for 1400-1600 cc vehicles and a Professional-Amateur category for cars below 1400 cc’s.
Manzar Khan, Managing Director of SMGI (South Asia) who has been involved in the preparations for the event said, “We have seen an upsurge in interest for motor sports and think it’s the right time to launch the T1 series. We are confident that the inaugural T1 series will set the precedent for racing events in India.”
The organizers expect up to 20 teams and 60 cars to line-up on the starting grid for the opening race at the 2.7 km circuit around the India Expo Center.
Well thank God!
Now all those derelict Yugos have a place to live out what little remains of their lives. That’s assuming foreign brands are allowed.
If not the field will have to consist of 60 Tempo Trax’s built locally by Bajaj Tempo Ltd. I don’t mind saying, THAT would be interesting, as the Tempo Trax is an SUV type vehicle. It would resemble a NCTS event and an African Safari!
Good stuff… now pass the curry rice.
UPDATE: Drivers including Chennai-based Saran Vikram and Kolkata’s Amitrajeet Ghosh will be seen in action in the inaugural 100,000 dollar prize money Goodyear top 1 racing championship. Others who are expected to take part are “ace” drivers Gaurav Dalal, Anand Prasad, C Rajaram and Siddharth Bose.
