Kuwait Plans for Quarter Mile Race Track
KUWAIT : President of the Higher Committee for Organizing Quarter Mile Auto Race Championships Sheikh Basel Al-Sabah Thursday announced plans to build a motor racing track for young enthusiasts in the country.
Speaking to the press Thursday at his Messilah palace, flanked by his sons Salem and Mubarak, Sheikh Basel said he will meet the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and concerned officials from the Public Authority for Youth and to obtain a license to build a quarter mile race track. The race track, he went to say, will be built in the main sports entertainment venue for young drivers who crave for auto racing.
Once the track has been built the committee will concentrate on preparing young Kuwaiti drivers to take part in regional contests such as the famous quarter mile auto race being held in Bahrain, he added.
He went on to praise the Kuwait Auto Club for lending a helping hand to the committee. He added by building the track in ‘our country’, Kuwait is not trying to compete with anyone in the region.
However, the new track he said will only add to similar facilities which are currently available in Bahrain and elsewhere.
The race track, he said, will satisfy the quench of most motor sports enthusiasts, particularly the Kuwaiti youth, who enjoy car racing and in the long-run may even put on the map as ‘a tourist attraction’ for young car enthusiasts in the area.

I am a new contractor working in the great country of Kuwait and love drag racing. Where and when can I go see this type of racing in Kuwait. Thank you.
Not sure of what the status of Kuwait’s 1/4 mile is. As far as I know the closest strip would be south of you in Bahrain.
