IRWIN Industrial Tools Commits to Britek Motorsport
A new driver and car combination for IRWIN Racing will debut at the Clipsal 500 on the streets of Adelaide this weekend. Marcus Marshall will make his race debut aboard a new, but proven #26 IRWIN Racing Ford Falcon.
Marshall got behind the wheel of an ex-Ford Performance Racing Falcon last week during testing. It was part of a detailed program that was aimed at familiarizing Marshall with the car as well as his crew. “It was a very busy test working with the new car,” said Marshall.
“We absolutely made the right call by going to the ex-FPR chassis.
“I got to know the team and work together at the track for the first time.
“The key word is comfortable. Comfortable in the car, comfortable with the crew and them being comfortable with me. All those things don’t happen overnight, but it is heading in the right direction.”
Lead Engineer Greg Foletta goes into his second season with IRWIN Racing and is looking forward to working with Marshall in Adelaide and beyond.
“The preparation at the workshop and the test has been very good,” said Foletta.
“The guys have had a very busy few weeks with the new chassis, but heading into the Clipsal 500 we have an excellent understanding of the car.”
“We really want to have a strong outing to start the year. Importantly we must finish both races and improve from that point.”
Always a tough event, the Clipsal 500 could be even harder with the event starting for the first time in the traditionally hot month of February.
“No easy first outing with Adelaide,” said Marshall. “They throw us straight into the hardest event of the year. I’m not fazed, rather looking forward to the challenge.
“Long races are not all about outright speed. It’s about being consistent and being in a position to make the most of any opportunities. Things can fall our way very quickly and you need to keep your wits about you to get a very good result.
“I’m not looking to jump out of the blocks from the outset, but I’m not going to give too much away.”
