Garth Tander Grabs Aussie Hat Trick

Holden secured the Australian V8 Supercars’ inaugural Manufacturer’s Challenge at Albert Park today thanks largely to Garth Tander winning all three races.

The Red Lions’ cause was also aided by in-fighting among the leading Ford drivers, who were supposed to be teaming up to take Holden down in the non-championship event.

Tander, the reigning V8 Supercar champion, completed his perfect weekend with victory in race three today ahead of the Formula One Australian Grand Prix.

Will Davison finished second in all three races to lead Ford’s charge, fresh from claiming the first round win of his career at Sydney’s Eastern Creek a week ago.

But for the second time in three days there was carnage among the Ford drivers as, on lap two, Jamie Whincup steered Mark Winterbottom into the wall.

The two were battling with Davison for second spot when Whincup and Winterbottom ran wide.

On attempting to re-enter the circuit, the pair battled for room and it was Winterbottom who paid the heaviest price, with the impact ending his race.

Whincup was given a drive through penalty and also suffered a punctured tyre and decided not to carry on.
