Fredric Vervisch on Barangas Pole

Fredric Vervisch qualified on pole position for the first race of the final 2007-8 Asian Formula Three Series event to be held at the Batangas Race Circuit in the Philippines. Rafael Suzuki was second with Matt Howson third.

Vervisch set a time of 1m 26.154 in hot and sultry conditions from his Team Goddard team mate, Rafael Suzuki. The latter’s attempt to rest pole position away was stymied by a drizzle just before the end of the session. Matt Howson, of PTRS, had been very close for the first half of the session but despite his best efforts was not able to improve once the rain set in.

Aran Racing’s drivers, both new to Formula Three, were next up with touring car racer, Ed Pead, impressing with his pace and qualifying ahead of his team mate, Leonardo Valois.

Peter Kalpakiotis was first in the Promotions Class in his Dallara 398. Vervisch has a 51 point lead over Howson but with 126 points still to be won the championship is by no means won.
