Tony Cochrane Launches Eastern Creek Tirade!

V8 Supercars boss Tony Cochrane has launched a blistering attack on Eastern Creek raceway, declaring the western Sydney venue a “disaster”. An animated Cochrane promised the embattled venue would “never see a V8 race again” after event organizers “mouthed off” at V8 Supercars last week.

“We have no intention of going back to Eastern Creek irrespective of what happens in Sydney,” Cochrane said.

Eastern Creek Map“We made that very clear. If Mr John Cotter (president of Australian Racing Drivers Club) can have his 10 cents, then we can too.

“They have a shocking history and the only thing good in their history was losing.”

Cotter lashed out at V8 Supercars after the organisation announced plans for a Homebush street race.

“They talk about not making any money on our event this year and that is correct,”
Cochrane said.

“They had 1500 corporates in a city of nearly five million people. This weekend in Darwin, a city of 125,000 people, they have 6200 corporates.

“I suggest what the ARDC should start doing, instead of firing their mouths off, is buy a book on how to be a promoter because they have absolutely no idea. Zero idea.

“They lost Bathurst, they lost the A1 grand prix and now they have lost V8 Supercars. One thing they are very good at as an organisation is losing.”

Cochrane, a former music promoter, warned that Sydney would not host a V8 Supercars event unless the Government accepted a plan for a $30 million Homebush street race.

“There is no track at Oran Park for us, and that only leaves Eastern Creek and that is a disaster,” Cochrane said. “We believe Homebush is the only option.

“And we believe if we can run a street race around Homebush we can make it financially stack up.

“If it is a loss then it is a loss to V8 Supercars, not the NSW Government. We are putting our money where our mouth is.”

It is understood the NSW is close to rubber-stamping the Homebush street race proposal.

Cochrane earlier in the week promised to bring “world class” entertainment from Kylie Minogue to Coldplay to Sydney for the event.
