A1 Team Netherlands on Podium in Chengdu
On his A1GP race debut Robert Doornbos has taken the first podium finish for A1 Team Netherlands this season. In the 18 lap Sprint race Doornbos finished in second place just behind Ireland, which had started from pole. Great Britain finished in third.
At the rolling start everyone held his position. Adam Carroll managed to create a gap with Doornbos in the opening lap and kept it throughout the race. A1 Team Netherlands did keep the pressure on Ireland though and Robert was able to extend the gap with Great Britain, Switzerland and South Africa every lap. In doing so the A1 Team Netherlands driver showed good top speeds, setting the highest of the race.
The Netherlands and Ireland were also fighting to set the fastest lap of the race, which is good for one bonus point. In the end it was Ireland who took that by just a few hundred of a second. There were no real incidents in the 18 lap race. Brazil had to retire early in the race, but this did not lead to the safety car coming out. Although announced earlier, this Sprint race also saw no mandatory pitstop yet, just like in Zandvoort.
In the championship standings A1 Team Netherlands capitalizes on the direct competition dropping points, with France and New Zealand scoring poor and Malaysia and Australia not scoring at all. With the second place A1 Team Netherlands takes 8 points and has a total of 19 points, right behind the top three which remains unchanged.
A1 Team Netherlands will start the Feature race this afternoon from eighth on the grid. The race will be broadcasted live by RTLGP. Prior to that there will be a full report of the Sprint race.
