WTCC: Tarquini: “Anything can happen at Macau”
The FIA World Touring Car Championship-title race between SEAT-men Yvan Muller and Gabriele Tarquini is only four days away from its decider.
Muller leads Tarquini with 14 points, 20 are available. But the Italian is optimistic despite the point gap to his team mate. “Anything can happen at such a special, complicated race such as Macau,” said Tarquini.
“Whatever does happen, whether I win or not, this has been a magnificent season for me.”
Despite the uniqueness of the two team mates heading for a title fight in the last race against each other, Muller is not new to the situation.
“The truth is this situation isn’t new for me. Years ago, when I was racing at the British touring car championship, I had to race against my team mates Plato and Thompson,” said Muller.
But despite having a 14 point lead, the French-man is not confident of his chances.
“The big difference is that this time I’ll be competing for the world title on the demanding Macau urban track where it’s easy to make mistakes. No doubt the battle will be hard-fought.”
Tarquini on the other hand is a bit more cautious.
“We have to be realistic, Muller’s point spread is considerable and I have a 10% chance of winning,” said Tarquini.
