Sepang Prepares For 50,000 Spectators On Super GT Weekend
Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is prepared to handle this weekend’s Super GT event with the final preparation set in place.
Working with the Royal Malaysian Police, about 100 police officers and more than 100 SIC security personnel will be stationed throughout the Circuit to manage and assist race fans when they arrive at the circuit.
“We are expecting around 50,000 spectators coming for the race and we will utilize the same formula we have used for F1 earlier this year,” said SIC Human Resource and Admin Manager Fahmi Wahab who is also in charge of the SIC security matter currently.
“We hope the public will obey the traffic officers so that we will have a safe and smooth event.”He added that the main problem in recent years is that people tend to park their cars on the road side just so they can park closer to the venue, this creates bottlenecks and subsequently traffic jam.
“In order to make Super GT a nice experience for all spectators, I urge that if you don’t want to park too far then come early to get the best parking spot or you could opt to go with Skybus.”
33 teams from GT300 and GT500 class3 will be blazing around the circuit for 54 laps on Sunday 21 June.
There will also be supporting races from Formula V6 Asia, GT3 Asia and Aston Martin Cup Asia.
In between races motorsports fans will also be treated with off track entertainment with appearances of the race queens Sana and Nana and the other race queens accompanying the teams.
On top of that, there will also be drift demos, GT look-a-like cars on display and performance by Dragon Red.
Parents with children can bring their kids for the Kids Pit Walk programme on Saturday after the second qualifying session. This free Pit Walkabout offer is limited to the first 1000 kids along with their parents.
Tickets of the Main Grandstand can be purchase at only RM100. SIC is also offering a special family package at RM250 for four Main Grandstand ticket. Free admission for children seven-years-old and below. Passes for Sunday’s Pit Walkabout and Circuit Safari are sold at RM100 each, while parking charges for bikes at RM2, cars at RM5 and bus at RM20.
