The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, the region’s premier sportscar championship, today announced a record entry for the 2010 season, which gets underway in April as part of the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.

Team StarChase driver Christian Menzel took pole position for Round 10 of the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia as the current points’ leader out-paced the next closest driver by four-tenths of a second at the Shanghai International Circuit today.

Asia’s premier sportscar championship, the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, is set for a new look in 2010, with the addition of private teams to the line-up as well as the stunning new Porsche 911 GT3 RS-based version of the 911 GT3 Cup car and a stellar calendar.

In its sixth season the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, celebrated new milestones; it was there as motorsport history was made, spread its wings yet further, and fielded arguably the most exciting field in its history. From Shanghai to Indonesia to Bahrain, the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia soared to new heights and crowned its first two-time champion in Team Jebsen driver Darryl O’Young.

The stage has been set for a spectacular 2008 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia championship- decider with Team StarChase driver Christian Menzel taking Class A pole position for the first of Sunday’s two races at the Bahrain International Circuit.

As the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia continues to expand its motorsport horizons further yet, the first-ever air transportation of the impressive fleet of 19 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racing cars took place on November 2.

With two races remaining in the 2008 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia season, the four Class A championship contenders are separated by just seven points after Round 10, meaning that a tight and exhilarating finish to the season in Bahrain next month is guaranteed.
